About My Puppies
Pekepoo Puppies, Breeder, Sales, Peekapoo Puppies | Pekepoo Park

At Pekepoo Park, we only breed First Generation Peekapoos.

This means that all of my parent dogs are either Pekingese or Poodles. This is the optimum breeding as these first generation puppies are the correct mix of both parents and carry the non-shedding coats.

About Peekapoos!

A little of this and a little of that…

At Pekepoo Park, we only breed First Generation Peekapoos. This means that all of my parent dogs are Pekingese and Poodles with the dam being the Pekingese. This is the optimum breeding as these first generation puppies are the correct mix of both parents and carry the non-shedding coats. Peekapoos are very intelligent dogs. They get their intelligence from their poodle side. Poodles are certainly very intelligent and certainly more precocious than pekingese. We have pekingese and poodles and the poodles shine in that department. In fact, I’ve been known to say that the poodles are too smart to be allowed to live here! They trick and fool us all of the time, keep us on our toes, and are simply delightful. Our pekingese are sweet, laid back and don’t even try to get away with a thing. They are certainly easy to live with. The pekingese have a very regal attitude and believe they are above the rest! I feel sure they are busy looking down on all of those silly poodle antics. When you mix the two breeds, you get a very smart, very able dog that believes they are “all that” and they are! The poodle agility is passed along so these guys are able to do it all. They are extremely interested in learning any trick you take the time to teach them. Better than learning the trick is performing it! Peekapoos are not hyperactive or big barkers. They are always thinking, though. Be prepared to have your puppy try and get the upper hand. Always be one step ahead, as these little guys are smart and would question why they shouldn’t be the boss! Peekapoos are sweet and loving but If you are looking strictly for a couch potato or lap dog, a peekapoo is not for you. Peekapoos are quite the amazing little dogs. They do well with children and adults. They do not shed and are hypoallergenic, absolutely.

Let’s Dig Into the Details

Boy or Girl?

I cannot say that there is a big difference between the male or female peekapoos. I can see subtle differences in individual puppies, but have not found them to be gender related. A general rule can be applied to all breeds and that is, “The girls love to be loved and the boys love to love you.”  I see a loyalty factor with the boys that I do not see in the girls. Little girls can be “all about themselves” but how fun!

If you are bringing a second dog into your home, remember that an established female may not appreciate another female coming in. You would do better bringing in a male. An established neutered male won’t mind either gender coming in.

If you are considering getting two puppies at the same time, I never discourage that. The two will keep each other very busy and love each others company, when the family is away.

The Merle Gene

There are many merle breeds in the AKC world. That tells you there is a “stamp of approval” from the highest and most ethical dog club. The merle gene is a gene that causes a pattern of color. If the dogs color is black, you will get a blue merle. A blue merle is a black dog that is patterned with all shades of grays and black. The same holds true for the reds and the browns. There can be an issue if, and only if, two merles are bred together. Pekingese do NOT carry the merle gene. With a single parent (my poodle) being a carrier, the only thing you get is FUN! Fun colors and patterns and some blue coloring in the eyes.

Blue Eyes

Many of my puppies will have blue in their eyes. We get all combinations of blue. Some dogs will have two blue eyes and the next with only one blue eye. We get  partially blue eyes a lot (half the eye will be brown and the other half blue). It is impossible to tell eye color before 4-5 weeks old. Most of my puppies are spoken for by that age so requesting blue eyes may be a tall order. Blue eyes and all combinations of blue and brown is simply ‘more fun’ like the merle gene. It does not indicate there is an issue with eye sight at all. Click here for more information.

Size

My miniature peekapoo puppies generally exceed 10 pounds with 11-15 pounds being my average as far as adult weight. My focus has been to produce family friendly dogs — dogs that can run and play and go for long walks and still fit perfectly in your lap. I have recently added toy poodles to my breeding program. Puppies sired with the toy poodles will mature from 6-10 pounds. The very small puppies in a toy litter (maturing to 5-6 pounds) are not appropriate for very young children.

Hernias

Umbilical Hernias are rather common in peekapoo puppies as there is an inherent genetic component in the pekingese breed. This is not to be considered a fault. If your puppy has a small hernia, it can be repaired when you spay or neuter your puppy. Veterinarians are happy to do the repair at this time for a very nominal fee. If your veterinarian suggests that a separate procedure is performed prior to spay/neuter, please contact me.

Underbites

The majority of peekapoo puppies will have underbites. Again, this comes from the pekingese. In the AKC pekingese world, an underbite is a must. Pekingese without an underbite are disqualified from the show ring. The underbite can give your puppy a very cute look. Some peekapoo adults will have a tooth or more that show, even when the mouth is closed.

Tear Stains

Tear stains are common with many small breed dogs. If your puppy gets tear stains, and you believe them to be unsightly, there is one product I highly I recommend. It is Eye Envy, a two part topical cleaner. It is very effective on tear stains. Many people use Angel Eyes and it is good but I feel Eye Envy is the best product out there.
